POLICY FOR HEALTH & SAFETY WELFARE

POLICY STATEMENT

This policy covers all the work carried out by Keller UK.

It is the intention of the Company to provide safe and healthy working conditions for all its employees, and to ensure that work done does not affect adversely the health and safety of others.

The company shall seek continually to improve its health, safety and welfare systems in order to reduce the number of accidents and incidents of ill health that it suffers. It shall review accident and incident statistics and shall set objectives and targets in order to reduce the number of such accidents and incidents.

All work will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and all other relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes. Work will also be carried out in accordance with requirements for sector specific operations, for example those for working on railways, when relevant.

Management and supervisory staff have the responsibility for implementing this policy throughout the company and must ensure that health and safety are always given priority in planning and day to day supervision of work.

This policy will be available for inspection in all work places. The policy will be explained to new employees at their induction.

Keller UK employs a Health and Safety Manager and qualified Safety Advisors to advise and assist management and employees in health, safety and welfare matters.

The company shall consult employees in good time in matters relating to their health and safety in accordance with the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996.

All employees will receive an induction on joining the company and will be provided with necessary information and training in respect of risks to their health and safety which may arise out of their work.

The co-operation and support of all employees are necessary to achieve the objectives of this safety policy. Whilst individual responsibilities are listed, it should be borne in mind that these are not restrictive, and that everyone should play a part in making the workplace safe and healthy.

The company operates an accredited Safety Management System in accordance with OHSAS 18001: Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems - Requirements. It is intended that this will be extended to all of the divisions within the company. The system is detailed in a Safety Manual, produced and maintained by the Keller UK HSEQ Manager. The Safety Manual is posted on the company intranet and is issued to each Director, Manager, Foreman and to other personnel who have a supervisory role, who require a printed copy. The Safety Manual contains Safety Instructions covering matters of health & safety and each instruction details the person responsible for ensuring compliance with the instruction. Regular audits of the Instructions are carried out by the Health and Safety staff.

Welfare facilities will be provided in accordance with the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations and with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

The company operates a Work Safe system. All employees have the right to refuse to work on grounds of health and safety if a safe system of work is not being used; the correct personal protective equipment or the tools to work safely have not been supplied; they think that they are being asked to work in dangerous conditions, for example: severe work or work in insufficient space; they consider that the risks bring taken are unnecessary or they have not had a method statement briefing or if they did not understand the briefing.

Employees, who do refuse to work, providing the refusal is reasonable, will not be discriminated against. Keller UK actively encourages the reporting of unsafe acts and conditions.

This policy will be reviewed as necessary but not less than annually at the first meeting each year of the Policy Committee for Health, Safety and Welfare.
